Blackpool Tower Dungeon: Great Escapes
The seasonal makeovers at the Dungeon attractions vary from whole new shows through to simple story changes, so while we were in "the pool which is black", we popped in to see Great Escapes.
Before even getting into the lift that usually starts the experience, we were confronted to give our name and asked if we had done anything illegal before. The scene continued with a warning that we should never give our real names in such situations, and to be careful of who to trust. The character then gave one of the group a special key to be kept safe, and led us into the elevator.
The show then continued with the normal route including the monk in the Dark Chapel, the Plague Doctor and of course the obligatory Torture Room. It was only until we arrived at the Judge's court, that the key was mentioned to ensure we were keeping it safe. Strangely this was the last real reference to what we were supposed to be doing with the key and despite times where we would called criminals through the rest of the show, we struggled to see how this all fitted in with the Great Escapes theme.
This is a minor gripe though, as we always enjoy the Dungeon and we had a genuinely educationally scary time on our visit. It's always fun to find out about the region's darkest history, and with the incredible atmosphere and outstanding actors, it was a very entertaining experience..
