Adventure Island Fright Fantastic 

Last year we visited Fright Fantastic at Adventure Island in Southend and experienced the Curse of Black Scream, their brand new scare attraction built underneath the Rage roller-coaster. The maze returned for 2013 but but with the building doubling up as a Christmas grotto and construction already taking place for that, the layout was shorter than last year and the experience was over much quicker.
The entrance fee has also gone this year, with the attraction being included on the park's ride wristband. This meant  - no more batched groups but a steady stream of people going through as they arrived at the attraction.

The show began with Cornelia Black - a female character taking the place of last year's male Cornelius Black character - who welcomes us to her theatre of wax. She explains that her dad, Cornelius, passed away in the year leaving the attraction to her, but we might still find him inside! From there on in, the corridors seemed much narrower than before and in the darkness we made our way past some gruesome wax scenes and jumpy effects.  

After a while we came to what appeared to be a dead end which was disorientating until we eventually found the black curtain on the left, leading us to the final scene. Like last year, a maniacal knife-wielding figure screamed at us and proceeded to tease and chase us all the way out of the exit!

The attraction is shorter than we've seen before, and there were only a handful of actors. It would be great to see it back at full size with plenty of characters to have fun with, but it did the job and the general public seemed to be enjoying it!
