Horror at Hinchingbrooke House 2024
Horror at Hinchingbrooke House is back again for another tour of crazily themed areas, populated by some of the liveliest and hands on actors you will ever encounter in a commercial scare attraction!
Once through the main doors of the house, the trail just keeps throwing so many different things at you, that even if you don’t like (or don’t recognise) one theme, there will be another one coming straight after! For example, a few of our group didn’t really understand the Twilight Zone segment, whereas the oldest person in the group loved the subtle references back to classic episodes such as Eye of the Beholder.
Later scenes included Oogie Boogie from a Nightmare Before Christmas, a deadly cast from Frozen and a whole zone of chick flicks including High School Musical and Mama Mia! It is this crazy mix of theme and characters that works so well and makes Horror at Hinchingbrooke a must visit (have we also said that these zones all change on a regular basis? - no visit to this event is ever repetitive!)
This year sees their tenth anniversary, and to celebrate they had a special birthday party zone with a DJ Jason Voorhees spinning the decks! It was as bonkers as anything else we have seen from the team. yet still gave us a number of good scares amongst the laughs.
And this is because, a lot of the success of Horror at Hinchingbrooke House isn’t just down to the crazy themes and set pieces, but the way it is presented to the audience. The actors throughout are very active, and aren’t afraid to get up close and touch and push where it fits the story line. Certainly, all of us were grabbed and manhandled at different times, but it always sat on the right side of extreme – without ever causing harm or crossing any boundaries!
One final thing we must mention is that this is a pop-up event in a school that has to be built, and taken down, outside of regular term time. The fact that they are able to create such believable themes and concepts in such a short time is staggering. OK, the event may rely on multiple pop-up tents and Heras fencing, but with the quality of the scares and the storytelling throughout, this is all overlooked, as guests are too busy bouncing from one scare to the next to really worry about the materials used!
All in – we had a great time at the event, and we can’t wait to see what crazy ideas they come up with for next year!

Very scary - First time to this scare event - Wednesday 30 October 2024. Very impressed - with good use of the house, school and grounds. Lots of tight spaces, gory (and disgusting scenes with toilet brushes) and most importantly jump scares. The scarers are definitely hands-on. Loved the serial killers disco party! Definitely go again.
Horror at Hinchingbrooke House 2023
There's always a sense of trepidation when our annual trip to Horror at Hinchingbrooke House approaches. We have consistently had some of the most intense run throughs of any scare event here as the actors are always very hands on. It’s gotten to the point where there’s usually some serious debate beforehand as to who has to pull the short straw of going at the front/back of the group. This is never an issue at other attractions, but the scares at Hinchingbrooke are so intense that it’s become common practice for this one event. This year we visited in a smaller group than usual, so had to accept our fate leading the group into the house…
Within moments of entering, we were barraged with some very full on physical scares from the actors. . They are unrelenting and get very up close and personal, often grabbing and throwing you around. Their approach to scares is very hands on, but nothing extreme. Just don’t expect to remain in the same order as you came in, as quite often we found members of our group getting kidnapped for some extra special attention during certain scenes. The atmosphere throughout is just pure chaos from start to finish.
The attraction also features a great variety of themes, with this year being one of the strongest lineups. We encountered classic horror icons such as the Leatherface and the crew from the Blair Witch, alongside more modern characters such as MEGAN and Huggy Wuggy. However, our personal highlight was Baywatch… Zombie Baywatch. The team never shy away from incorporating humour into their event and nowhere is this more evident than in the second schoolhouse section themed around 80’s/90’s TV shows. We found ourselves getting thrown between actors (literally) like a volleyball. It’s sections like this that really highlight what makes this event stand out. It’s their tongue in cheek humour and ability to transform anything into the world of horror for comedic effect.
The event have brought back their Grindhouse maze for another year of hilarious gory, gritty B-movie nightmares. Once again this was one of the strongest sections of the event, balancing gore, grossness and scares all in good manner. We couldn’t help but feel dirty after going through this portion of the attraction due to the numerous disgusting scenes that played out within.
The event has definitely levelled up from previous years, with the indoor sections within the school feeling better themed and more immersive than ever before. The Hinchingbrooke team have clearly put a lot of effort into the event this year and it’s absolutely paid off. We dare say this might be their strongest year yet! It’s fair to say we’re already counting down the days till we can return in 2024. Let’s just hope we’ve recovered from this year’s visit by then. Trust us when we say, we’re still shaking in fear even now.

Very scary - What a brilliant event
After moving back to England from the US we were concerned that we would never again go to a good Halloween experience, but we were wrong
Horror at Hinchingbrooke House was amazing from start to finish. Each zone was so detailed and planned to perfection, all of the actors were excellent and we were there for over an hour so it was great value for money
We are not easily scared but others in our group were screaming all the way round
Downsides - I honestly can’t think of anything, except for the ports loos being in the pitch black inside and out (I think that was just at the beginning of the evening though) Top tip - buy the fast pass

Very scary
Most actors did a brilliant job, and the costumes and settings were great (big shout out to the deliciously disgusting toilet scene). Good efforts were made to avoid batching considering how long it is. Unfortunately, some clown actors were physically aggressive, acting beyond what a contact scare is.

Horror at Hinchingbrooke House 2022
Once again - Horror at Hinchingbrooke House managed to throw everything at us - including the kitchen sink! Themed around different horror movies - no genre was safe and it's actually quite hard to remember what the hell happened along our visit as we bounced from movie to movie.
After batching we entered the house itself, which was surprisingly subdued for 2022. We had several good jumps but nothing as terrifying as before. We therefore thought that maybe the event team had softened - and then we came to the Sports Hall. From here on in, the physicality and intensity of the scare actors was unparalleled. We may have said that last year's Grease zone was mad, but this year's Dirty Dancing zone was just as bonkers. Who knew that you could easily be scared by a girl in short shorts holding a watermelon?
Once back out into the woods, the scares came thick and fast, with another bunch of horror movie references from classics such as Psycho through to a trippy and terrifying Krampus Christmas scene. So many of the scenes had changed since last year, and we had a great time navigating our way through the all the different zones. Being surprised each year is really why we don't want to say much more about this event without spoiling it for anyone. But some of the set pieces and solos are brilliant and we particularly enjoyed the Squid Games finale.
So, if you love horror movies from all decades, then you will genuinely love Horror at Hinchingbrooke House. Unlike other events they are more than happy to manhandle their guests and throughout the whole tour we had our faces pushed into toilets, were physically grabbed and separated from our groups and generally jostled around between mazes. But it works so well, that you just go along with it!
One of the other things we have to praise the team on is the sheer size and intimidating presence of their actors. We're not sure whether they stand on street corners looking for the meanest and baddest actors ever, but all of them are believably intimidating from beginning to end. None of these actors have any concept of personal space and no one is safe - (even if trying to hide in the middle of the group!)
We have always had a great time at Horror at Hinchingbrooke House and 2022 was no exception. In fact with about another 20 minutes added to the tour, the show is longer than ever, and we weren't sure whether we desperately wanted to get out as we were scared, or wanted to stay as we were laughing so much! Hats off to the team for one again bringing something uniquely different.

Horror at Hinchingbrooke House 2021
Why do we keep doing this to ourselves? Every year we come out of Horror at Hinchingbrooke House shaking and partly traumatised, and yet, once again, here we are stood in front of the impressive house, ready to do it all again!
The attraction seems so peaceful from the outside, but this quiet exterior hides a heart or pure gut wrenching horror. Once inside there is no turning back, and the journey throws just about everything scary it can at you in just under an hour. You want the bad guys of Arkham Asylum? They are all here. You want Jack Nicholson in the Shining attacking you through a bathroom door? We've got that! Have you ever wondered what the cast of Grease might look like if they were all zombies? No? Well tough - cos we're going to throw that at you as well!
There really is no rhyme or reason to the scenes and movies references throughout this attraction and this is what makes the event so utterly charming (and terrifying). Throughout the whole tour you can never guess what is coming next until it's too late.
As usual the event starts in the house but ventures out into the school buildings and woodland behind, with the scenes and scares just coming at you relentlessly throughout. The main school sports hall is always a terrifying highlight and this year we never knew whether to laugh, sing or scream. The rooms echoed with the soundtrack of Grease the musical, yet the zombie Pink Lady's and Greaser's were some of the most physical actors we experienced all Halloween. At one point our group of four was hanging on to each other so tightly just to stop the actors from physically separating us and dragging us back into the foggy depths.
But this was just one scene in the overall chaos of this experience. Despite being a temporary build, the sets were all believable, and the costumes and make up all add to the atmosphere. We must just give a shout out to all the actors who work at this event, as it is their physicality and aggression that makes this event so terrifying
Finally, after several years of the Purge it was nice to see something different as the big finale. It was just as genuinely chaotic and scary as before, but we are glad they team found something to replace this now overused trope.
You can probably tell that we loved Hinchingbrooke this year, but we really must say that "love" is a subjective word. During our tour we absolutely "hated" what we were experiencing as it was just so scary and hands on. But to us that's a good thing. So all we can say to the team behind Horror at Hinchingbrooke House is - we love/hate you just the way you are - don't ever change!

Terrifying Value for money, entertainment value etc It is the best attraction I’ve been to yet absolutely terrifying The only downside to my experience it was the slow group in front of us different is really well-managed and had a lot of really helpful safety stewards around the whole event Big well done to the management it’s really nice to see a mid-size event with their own merchandise scare actors 10 out of 10 Mazes/set designs 10 out of 10 Burger vans 10 out of 10 Photo Booth 10 out of 10
Horror at Hinchingbrooke House 2019
Horror came back to Hinchingbrooke House this Halloween, with an array of new scenes based on classic horror movies and TV shows. From American Horror Story through to The Poltergeist and the Purge, no genre is left un-turned in this intense experience that takes place across the whole estate.
Starting inside the house itself as usual, we had a number of great quality scares as the actors attacked us from all sides. As an introduction, these opening scenes serve as a great reminder that this is a full contact experience. As we walked through, we were jostled, grabbed at, and in one defining moment blocked from leaving by a creature that just laid on the floor gripping our foot. We actually thought about sacrificing our shoe just to escape!
Once outside, the scares kept coming and our group were constantly being attacked - often with some very aggressive chainsaws. Now we aren't generally scared of chainsaws, but when these were pressed into vulnerable places where we could feel the vibration of the engine, its isn't difficult to imagine how we just wanted to run away from the torment!
One of our favourite parts of this event is the walk through the school buildings in the grounds, and this year was no different, as we were stalked, separated and terrorised in the blinding strobes and deafening sound. We couldn't wait to get out, but that of course just then lead us to another scene and so on, and with the intensity of the scares throughout, we were genuinely on edge for the whole of the hour long experience.
If there was anything we would change about this years event it would be the ending scenes. Based around the Purge movies, these scenes left us separated and going in different directions while the aggressive actors attacked us from all sides with chainsaws. We know this sounds almost sacrilegious - but maybe there were just a few too many chainsaws, as they do tend to lose their shock factor once you have seen so many. Also we would love to see a different theme from the Purge if possible - even if the theme does lend itself to the chaotic nature of the event finale.
If Horror at Hinchingbrooke House was an amp like in Spinal Tap the Movie, then it definitely has the dial ramped up to 11. We can't think of any other attraction that provides such an intense experience within such a well designed and immersive environment. It would be very easy to just touch and manhandle people, but to make all this happen in recognisable movie settings, is an art in itself. So, if you have never been to this event - then you need to make sure you visit next year!

Horror at Hinchingbrooke House 2018
Horror at Hinchingbrooke House returns this year for it’s fourth rendition. What sets apart this multi-part attraction from other similar events is it’s focus on well-known characters. Where some mazes have clowns, Hinchingbrooke has Pennywise; many events feature psychopaths, Hinchingbrooke has Michael Myers; and several attractions are touting ‘The Walking Dead’ this year, but only Hinchingbrooke has UK Negan!
The gothic setting of Hinchingbrooke House itself makes this the perfect place for a scaremaze. From the moment you walk through the entrance archway and see the house lit up an eerie green, you are drawn completely into the atmosphere and are ready to be scared witless. The event uses a timed-ticket based system, which then sees you enter a queue to get into the attraction. Despite arriving only 5 minutes into our timeslot, we did have a little wait to get in, but this soon passes with the fantastic soundtrack of classic Halloween horror films and many roaming actors.
Once in the maze itself, we couldn’t help but enjoy the fact we were walking through a genuine gothic house. The carpets are real, there are real books in bookcases and massive arched windows showing only the bleak dark inside. Despite a few unthemed barriers, the use of the space is fantastic and the authenticity really adds to the idea of being in a horror movie. This was added to later as part of the walkthrough sees you entering a block of Hinchingbrooke school. There’s something very unnerving about seeing an empty classroom engulfed in clouds of mist! It made us feel as if there could be a character behind every corner.
Speaking of characters, there’s loads of them! Horror fans will be very well catered for here. We encountered Billy from Saw, Freddie from Nightmare on Elm Street and Jason from Friday 13th to namedrop but a few. Every character is brought to life brilliantly by the actors and also some very creative lighting – it’s great to have a strobe activate at the exact moment an actor appears and it really added to the scare! The maze is divided into different scenes, each a loving tribute to a franchise from horror’s long history and it was pleasing to hear the theme tune from each start up as we got near to signal what was next. At the beginning, we did feel some the scenes did get a little confused and blended into one another, but as the maze went on these became much more defined and fleshed out.
In fact it did feel a little like a maze of two halves. Around half way through the attraction, we were held and effectively re-batched into the next half of the maze. This presumably was to try and combat bunching in the maze and enhance the second half of the experience. It was also surprisingly nice to have a slight breather as the first section had been very relentless if not overly intense.
But all that was about to change. We don’t want to spoil too much of the second section, but if you don’t like chainsaws, look away now! Needless to say this half was much more intense and it soon became clear that the actors were not afraid to get very hands on with us. This was most apparent in the Walking Dead section, the crux of Hinchingbrooke’s marketing this year.
As mentioned earlier, the event features UK Negan – a lookalike of the character from the show who you may have seen on those Thorpe Park promos earlier this year! Negan gave us a strict and very entertaining talking to before setting the scene for what is essentially the finale to the maze. We can’t deny that we were slightly disappointed when we were handed a hood for this. Hooded mazes can be notoriously hit and miss and we were worried this would ruin the big finale.
We shouldn’t have worried. This final section is intense. Again, we don’t want to give too much away but expect to be manhandled, split-up, disorientated and actually quite scared! The actors do a fantastic job here of appearing when you least expect it and actually making the experience quite personal and unique for everyone; one of our group was following an actor along the rope for quite some time thinking they were a guest before it actually turned out they were a walker all along! It’s a great finale and one of the best hooded sections we’ve experienced.
Hinchingbrooke has developed quite a cult following over the last few years and with events as fun as this it’s only going to get bigger every year. It’s amazing to think that such a detailed maze is only in place over this half-term week (surely they don’t need that school building for anything else!). The team here build a new maze every year, so it’s worth coming back even if you’ve experienced it already. As for us, we’re already looking forward to next year!

Mildly scary
First time visiting H@HH and it's not Great.
Parking and location are difficult. No marshals and poor signage made it hard to find and parking was to say the least, quite scary!!
Opening area was pretty poor. Nothing to look at except two, obviously quite cold and bored scarers wandering around while we queued. two sad burger vans and a shack for photos.
The queue was very long but we we're allowed in on the dot of out entry time but the first long queue was followed by another long queue and it took 50 Mins to actually get into the house which is done by simply letting in approximately 10 people every 6/7 mins.
Entry: 2 out of 10
The actual mazes were well designed to take you through the house but were constructed of corrugated metal fences which made nothing of the beautiful old house because mostly you couldn't see the rooms except for the doors.
Scarers were thin on the ground with one per section. Make up was excellent however and most of the scarers did a great job of working the group on their own. The scene dressing of the scares was also thin and as scares move into the Sixth form college, you are always aware that you are in a modern building. The main lighting is strobes and this was overdone and became a bit annoying. Smoke was well used and did on two occasions create an excellent atmosphere.
Mazes : 5 out of 10
Scarers : 7 out of 10 (10/10 for those present)
Costume : 8 out of 10
Outside section was average also. Long walks with little interaction from scarers with a strange Walking Dead style section with a guy shouting at you in a tent, then a running section which was good (if you can run) but where one Zombie stole my hat and ran off. This proved to be the most fun as she made me chase her to retrieve it. Fun for me is of course, not fun for the other members of the group so, can't complain, but I imagine the others were a little nonplussed by this??
Outside 5 out of 10
Overall we agreed they should marshal people better and they should have more scarers with better set design including making much better use of the old house. How they won 2017 scare award is however a complete mystery, unless this year was very different. Probably won't be going back for a few years and then only to see if it's improved.

Horror at Hinchingbrooke House 2017
Horror at Hinchingbrook House is back for 2017 with another intense year of scares, horror movie villians and more. The attraction opened with some American Horror Story scenes set in the main house, and then threw scare after scare at us as we headed out of the house and into the buildings and woodland of the estate.
The sports hall/school complex that was so excellent as Silent Hill last year, has been repurposed to include classic 90s horror movies such as Scream, Urban Legend and I Know What You did last summer. One of our favourite parts was coming to face to face with the American Psycho to the sounds of Huey Lewis and The News “Hip to be Square”
Out in the woodlands, the horror icons kept coming and our journey took us through several different marquees and sets and around every corner was a new surprise. As the route headed back towards the house, we were hooded and had to follow a rope while zombies from Resident Evil attacked us.
The whole of the last section of the event continued the Resident Evil theme and this is where we felt the scenes didn’t have the same impact as last year’s The Purge. The area seemed too big to contain just one theme, and could have been improved with one last killer scene or scare to leave us running back to the hub. Maybe it was just mistimed, but we walked through a marquee, saw an Umbrella Corporation employee who just shouted at us and we were out.
All in - it's still an amazing event and we can't wait to see what they do next time. After two years – there are still hundreds of different movies that the team can tap into and we are sure they will come up with more ingenious frights next time.

Horror at Hinchingbrooke House 2016
Horror at Hinchingbrooke House burst onto the Halloween scene last year with their large event set in the buildings and grounds of the 18th century stately home in Cambridgeshire. Unlike many scare events that use generic horror characters (zombies, clowns etc), this event uses well know characters and locations from famous horror movies, and along the way guests will experience scenes from such diverse movies as Psycho, Silent Hill and The Purge.
Our tour started in the front courtyard of the moodily lit house and we were already nervous by the time the door creaked open and we were ushered inside. Walking through the stately rooms at the start of the attraction, it was quite hard to believe that a scare attraction had been allowed to be built inside, as some of the antiquities and artwork must have been priceless. Of course everything was being guarded by some very lively creatures, who were using the impressive lighting effects to gain a number of scares from the whole group.
All too soon, we left the house and we actually thought that was the end of the experience. How wrong we were! In the distance we could hear screams and the path led us away from the house to a number of outbuildings and halls that form part of the school on the site. The scenes using the school buildings were probably the highlight of the event as the whole experience was like stepping directly into the Silent Hill movie. The path wound all round the building and with creepy nurses, insane strobing and some crazy characters, the whole section was relentless, and we were geuinely pleased to head back outside.
What followed from here on, was a number of different scenes as we followed the trail deeper and deeper into the darkness of the woods. Unlike some walking attractions, the team had placed multiple actors along the route and we hardly had to walk that far without experiencing something scary. As the path finally headed back towards the main house, we were faced with one large scene reminiscent of the film The Purge. In this final scene the actors were very up close and personal and we were chased back out into the main courtyard after almost an hour on the trail.
We really enjoyed the whole Horror at Hinchingbrooke House event for the completely different themes and stories we experienced along our long journey. It was refreshing to see scenes and characters from actual movies alongside the bog standard scares and everything combined to make a terrifyingly fun experience. Well done to all involved!
