Halloween 2011 - Where will you be scared?
Every year the scare industry keeps getting bigger and bigger and 2011 is no different with events all across the UK. Soon it will be time to choose where you are going and once again it's going to be a tough choice. We have organised some exciting trips to places that our readers have expressed particular interest in, but sadly we can't be everywhere at the same time!
So what do we have to look forward to this year? Let’s take a closer look at some of the new and returning attractions around the UK:
Starting with the big boys, Halloween returns to the theme parks. Fright Nights at Thorpe brings us Experiment 10 - a brand new maze, but also sees the departure of Hellgate and the scare zone. Over at Alton Towers, the mazes remain unchanged but are going to be moved into the park while a new scare zone will be created. More family friendly scares will be on offer at Chessington when they unveil The Krypt.
Oakwood in Wales will be adding the new walk through Haunted Horror House and Lightwater Valley is upping the scare factor to become Frightwater Valley for two nights. Talking of cool Halloween name changes, Pleasurewood Hills becomes Pleasurewood Chills for the week of Halloween!
Elsewhere, new attractions for this year include The Fear in West Sussex, Enigma by new company ScareTech and Hellsgate a free attraction comprising of just 26 steps!
When you look at a map of the UK attractions you can see clumps of activity focused on particular areas with many big scare events competing for the same target audience. In the North West there’s Spooky World with 2 new attractions , Farmaggedon playing to sell out audiences and Scare Kingdom with 5 re-themed attractions for 2011 . In Yorkshire there is York Maze’s Hallowscream, the brand new Yorkshire Scare Grounds, The Halloween Adventure at Stockeld Park and Bunker 13 at Magna Science Centre.
In the South East, the three large Halloween events are Tulleys Shocktoberfest with the new Hell-Ements extreme maze, Spooky Castle at Broadditch – one of ScareTOUR’s favourites in 2010, and the revamped and expanded Shriek Week at Hop Farm.
These last three events join a whole host of other temporary attractions based at farms and/or farm parks such as Dr Frights Halloween Horror Nights, Scareshow at Church Farm, Frightmare at Over Farm, Farm of Terror, Halloween Horror at Rectory Farm, Thurleigh Farm and Halloween at Cantref.
It’s not just farms either. There are a number of unusual places for events including a bus museum (Castle Point Ghost Tours), a canal (Dudley Canal Horror), a Dinosaur Park (PrimEVIL) and a stately home and its gardens ( Scaresville.)
You would think that the year round attractions wouldn’t have to worry about Halloween but most are doing something new or different. London Bridge experience will be running PhoboPhobia for the 2nd year, this time featuring scenes and characters from the Human Centipede movie while the various Dungeons across the UK will see the return of Stingy Jack, the King of Scare.
England isn’t the only country getting into scares - two adjoining farms in County Meath in Ireland will be bringing the Haunted Spectacular at Grove Gardens and Farmaphobia, which this year will see the relocation of the critically successful Ghosts of Christmas from Glasgow.
This is just the tip of the iceberg as we haven't included the numerous smaller events held by the likes of family fun parks, steam railways, National Trust properties and at multiple National Forest locations across the UK. If we haven't mentioned your event then why not contact us and let us know about it. We would love to find out more.
Therefore, this October, there’s no excuse not to go out and be scared. Whether you visit one event, or as many as you can, why not let everyone know what you thought of it by posting a quick “You Review” comment?
So, have a fantastic scream filled Halloween and we hope to meet as many of you as possible on one of our exclusive trips.
