The Conjuring Occult Museum - Review
When the first Conjuring movie came out in 2013, it was widely praised for its intense scares and supernatural horror, and was soon followed up by sequels and spin offs, totaling up to ten different movies across the Conjuring Universe.
Now in 2025, the series is coming to the end with the release of the last movie - The Conjuring: Last Rites, and as a one off promotional event, Warner Bros commissioned The Conjuring Occult Museum to open for just three days in London.
Like many people we were unable to get any tickets through the free public ballot, and had resigned ourselves to not being able to experience this. Gladly - the production company at Electric Sheep were keen for us to see what they had created, and so we found ourselves in a back alley in London's Shoreditch, not really knowing what to expect!
The lobby held some actual props from the movies, and after signing a waiver, we headed into the experience where we were greeted by a closed door with a tape recorded warning from the Warrens themselves (played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga). We then walked through into the infamous relic room from the movies and were invited to take a look around. This room was like a treasure chest of Easter Eggs for fans of the franchise. The jewellery box from the first movie, the zoetrope that summoned the crooked man from the second movie, and of course the massive glass cabinet with "Warning Positively Do not open" and the creepy Annabelle doll sat on a stool inside.
Two actors in this room talked us through some of the props and their legends as well as introducing a large axe (which would come into play later in the experience.) Soon we were tasked with locating some scraps of paper that may lead to a note from the Warren's daughter Judy. As each piece of paper was discovered, special effects in the room were triggered such as a piano playing itself as lights flickered, the jewellery box playing tinkly music and an ominous portrait on the wall that soon triggered an effective shadow through the windows to imply that the Nun (or the demon Valak) was stalking us.
But so far - nothing had happened with Annabelle - until I was told to look really closely at her cabinet. There, hidden away was the final piece of the letter and as I reached to take it out I was warned "under no circumstances touch the glass". But of course - I couldn't help it, and at that point the room broke into chaos. With a short period of darkness and noise, some shouting and distraction from the priest and then as the lights came on - Annabelle was gone. I swear we heard her demonic laugh in the distance and we were quickly ushered out of the room to get away.
But somehow we ended up in an attic and the demonic assault just stepped a gear! This scene had ghosts appearing in the mirror, demonic creatures disappearing in an illusion you'd expect from magician, and a crawling baby with devil horns which went from crawling towards us on the floor to suddenly lunging at us from overhead. The axe we mentioned earlier was briefly seen in the mirror being wielded by an imposing figure who suddenly two seconds later was in the room with us. After a tense struggle between the axeman and the priest, a door was opened and we were told to run for our lives as She Sells Sanctuary by the Cult blasted out!
Afterwards we were greeted with specially filmed video featuring the stars of the movie and given a goody bag of Conjuring merchandise before heading to the bar for a Conjuring themed cocktail
All in , we are so glad that we got invite down to experience this as it was a perfect promo for the movie. The format of the rooms, reminded us a bit of the Dungeon attractions with triggered effects etc, but these two main rooms probably had more effects and scares in than any thing we have ever done before. The attention to detail to the sets and the timing of the effects and jumps were incredible - it's just a real shame that the attraction only opened for three days.
The Conjuring Last Rites is now playing in cinemas
