Brackley Haunted House - Review 2025
Brackley Horror House is a charitable event for all the family with fairground rides, live music, entertainment for the kids and of course the main attraction itself – A Nightmare on Station Road.
It was the main attraction that brought us to the event. and we were surprised on arrival to see a three-storey scaffold structure built on a hilly slope a the edge of the venue. The logistics of building this just for a pop-up event were amazing, but we were even more impressed once we got inside.
The whole structure had been turned into a full-on scare house with three levels of fear, an assorted cast of crazy characters and a good level of design and theming. Granted – we could always tell we were on a scaffolding, but the props and room designs inside helped sell the scenes.
Each room held a mix of theatrical storytelling, genuine jump scares or just unsettling characterisation. The actors were clearly all volunteers and we would imagine would have settled into their roles later on through the run (we were literally the first group in when it opened and could see the nerves on some of their faces!) It also didn’t help that at 3am the daylight was bleeding in, but we could see that in the dark this could have been genuinely terrifying. We could see the impressive lighting effects around the venue including a very disorientating spinning tunnel effect achieved just through a single spotlight
Of course, scaffolding stairs aren’t the best in daylight and fortunately the venue have kept scares away from the stairs and made sure these were illuminated well.
One final note- is that the whole event runs form 3pm till late so perfectly caters for young kids (with their own maze – Zombinos) but still provides live music and scares for the older and braver guests.
All in – we were surprised at the ambition of this massive house and genuinely feel that the risk paid off. We genuinely enjoyed our visit and will definitely return in the future to see what horrors the team can come up with next. Lets hope they raised loads of money for their chosen charity -Parkinson's UK.
